Attendance Officer – School Attendance Team

Grade: 3B, £30,289 - £32,701

Working hours: 36 hours per week, term time only plus 10 days

Contract type: Initial 12 month fixed term contract

Location: Civic Centre/ city wide/ Hybrid

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the School Attendance Service for an Attendance Officer. This post is initially for a 12 month period.

 

You will advise and support schools, children, young people and their families who are experiencing education related difficulties especially around regular attendance at school.

  • Working in partnership with schools, early help and other professionals in developing strategies to raise attendance, and addressing the barriers to attendance. 
  • Providing advice about implementation of school based policies, procedures and systems, like effective registration procedures.
  • Developing partnerships between home and school and wider agencies to secure good attendance. 
  • Facilitating attendance meetings in schools and within a multi agency environment. 
  • Providing training to school and other partners in relation to school attendance. 
  • Using statistical analysis to identify trends and patterns of attendance both with individual pupils and in the wider school and local authority. 
  • Use the full range of strategies in line with the DfE legislation to raise attendance, including legal processes.
The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:
  • Experience in working with children/young people/families in either a statutory or voluntary setting
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary setting with a wide range of professionals. 
  • Using data analysis to inform practice and set appropriate targets with particular regard to Persistent and Severe Absence from school
  • Excellent communication with a range of agencies, schools and families both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of practice and policies that impact school with particular focus on attendance
  • Awareness of information sharing protocols
  • A working knowledge of safeguarding policies, procedures and the legal framework for children and young people
  • A working knowledge of education legislation and how this can be implemented in practise. 
  • You will also need to be a problem solver, experienced in working to secure the best outcomes for children and be able to work with different agencies, using your exceptional interpersonal skills.  
  • You will have the ability to maintain effective professional relationships at all levels and manage complex meetings.  
  • You will need to be highly motivated, enthusiastic and well organised with the flexibility to meet deadlines.  

A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.

Please be aware that this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and that you will be required to meet the cost of the DBS check – currently £38.00. The payment for this will be deducted from your first four months’ salary payments at a rate of £9.50 per month. If you do not commence employment for any reason but the DBS has been processed, you will be sent an invoice for the payment of £38.00.
