About us
Salford has changed and is continuing to change. At the heart of our approach are ambitious plans to transform Salford into a modern global city where we can all make a real difference to the lives of Salford people. As a people centred and values-based organisation Salford really is a great place to work. With a positive permission culture and can-do approach, we embrace innovation and encourage performance.

This is a stimulating time for the Public Health team and for the Council and CCG as a whole in relation to our Integrated commissioning function and fund. You will be welcomed to the Public Health team within our People Directorate to work across the Council and CCG supporting the delivery of improved outcomes for our residents. Salford is part of Greater Manchester with its Public Service Reform Programme and devolution agendas bringing new opportunities.

We currently have an exciting job opportunity within our Public Health Team to enable us to continue to build on our success and also bring new experience, knowledge and ideas into the team. Much of the work can be done from home so you don’t have to travel to Salford, and we will provide you with the technology that you need to enable you to do so.

About the role
This is a public health role to help tackle health inequalities through targeted engagement and inclusion work with communities, and to provide direct work to COVID-19. There is a strong commitment in the Locality Plan to tackle health inequalities; some of which have been exposed and exacerbated by COVID-19.

Now is the time to act… We are looking for passionate individuals with varied experiences relevant to public health to act as the link between public health, communications and engagement teams, and trusted leaders in communities (e.g. GPs, neighbourhood managers, health improvement and the VCSE sector). You will advocate for the needs of individuals and groups who may be disadvantaged by size, language, cultural or systemic barriers to accessing health, care, housing or NHS, or council services, working with internal colleagues and our partners to tackle stigma and systemic barriers that face BAME communities and other minority or hard-to-reach groups, as well as other barriers like fear of authority, reprisals and community cohesion issues that may arise in the course of the pandemic. You will also help us to ensure that the Public Health service have robust engagement and support in place with vulnerable and minority communities to prevent and respond to Covid-19, and to ensure there is an understanding of the response that communities need to undertake, so that links are established to support a swift response to any outbreaks.

About you
Your style and approach will reflect our values: you will be passionate about health inclusion and addressing health inequality, always striving to improve things; valuing and respecting others’ contribution, with a people-centred approach to ensure our values are front and centre in all you do. You will take pride in developing strong relationships with our communities by applying your thorough understanding and strong commitment to equality of access and opportunity. You will enjoy taking personal responsibility to strengthen community engagement with identified communities on the wider determinants of health and care inequalities, and related topics; ensuring you draw on your specialist knowledge and share complex information that is engaging and easy to understand to make a real difference to people’s lives.

Safe working
We are a Covid-safe organisation and you will have an individual risk assessment when you join the organisation to ensure we effectively support your health and wellbeing throughout your employment.
