Hours: Casual

We are looking to strengthen our existing pool of casual Governing Board (GB) Clerks as part of our ongoing commitment to help provide the best education for the young people of Salford.

Working from home, this interesting and rewarding casual role involves:

• Providing advice to School GBs on governance, constitutional and procedural matters.
• Taking comprehensive notes and producing a professional standard of minutes for formal GB meetings.
• Managing information effectively in accordance with legal requirements.

Each school GB holds one or two full meetings per term with a small number of additional committee meetings. You will be allocated a number of schools (to fit around your existing commitments); however, we do require consistent attendance at these meeting to ensure continuity and the best possible service for our schools. Most meetings are held in schools in the evenings or late afternoon and typically last around 2 hours.

You will receive training to match the Department for Education (DfE) competency framework for clerks in order to fulfil your responsibilities and as a clerk would also be expected to attend termly briefing sessions for which you will be paid.


Key requirements:

• Excellent literacy, minute-writing and IT skills
• Organised, detail conscious, able to work to deadlines.
• Able to maintain confidentiality and remain impartial.
• The necessary interpersonal skills to work closely with schools and GBs and deal effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds.
• Ability to work flexibly and be available to work during the evening.

Previous experience as a GB clerk, school governor or school secretary would be an advantage but not essential.
The skills to be able to write formal minutes to a professional standard are essential.
