Lead Practitioner - Environmental Health
Working Hours:
36 hours per week

Regulatory services has recently completed a restructure and has exciting opportunities to join the team that is committed to service delivery and helping to shape the future of the city.

This has created an integrated, flexible service covering a wide range of the council’s enforcement and regulatory responsibilities and empowered to make the most effective use of the full range of available powers to develop flexible and co-ordinated responses to challenges and opportunities.

As a result of internal staffing changes we are looking to recruit to this key post.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team of 5 Lead Practitioners each with their own area of professional focus. As Lead Practitioner for Environmental Health the successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day management of the City Council’s food hygiene, health and safety, and animal welfare regulatory functions as well as having oversight of an integrated pest control and dog warden service. As such applicants must be able to demonstrate their competence to fulfil the roles of Authorised Officer and Lead Food Officer under the provisions of the Food Safety Act 1990.

The successful applicant will be the operational lead for these functions and will also work collaboratively with internal and external partners such as Greater Manchester Police, to contribute to the delivery of the city council’s strategic objectives.

Successful applicants will be enthusiastic and dedicated with the ability to lead a team of professional and technical staff, achieve targets, deliver innovation and continuous improvement and work effectively with a wide range of partners. You will be expected to adopt a flexible and problem solving approach to work.

Candidates will need to demonstrate that they have a non discriminatory, investigatory mind-set with the ability to think outside of the box, have significant relevant experience of case management processes and a commitment to working in partnerships with the ability to take the lead in a multi agency environment.

The successful applicant will operate within the Enforcement Hub, which consists of enforcement bodies from within and outside of the local authority. The role will primarily have an area of focus on delivering the areas outlined above. However, there will be a need to operate within multi-skilled teams working in partnership to bring about quick and satisfactory resolutions to issues that arise within the City, in accordance with our Strategies, policies and practices.

The role holders will work alongside other Lead Practitioners, benefitting from support and guidance from Service Managers and direction and supervision from a the Head of Service, as well as being able to draw on the technical and professional expertise of Level 2 Officers.
