Salford City Council
Civic Centre
Swinton
M27 5BN
Salary: £23,166 - £25,694 – fixed term 12 months
Thriving at the heart of the Greater Manchester region, Salford is a modern, global city which is constantly changing.
Salford has attracted billions of pounds of investment in the last ten years to deliver developments like MediaCityUK, a purpose-built home for creative and digital businesses, as well as new logistical, transport and sports infrastructure.
This growth needs to be matched by the standard of data and maps we produce, and we are currently looking for a GIS (Geographical Information System) Solutions Development Officer to assist with our growing workload.
This position will suit someone with good knowledge of GIS and web development, who is looking to gain valuable experience of putting these skills into practice in a fast-paced working environment.
You will have the opportunity to develop and learn alongside our highly successful team. Salford City Council has a nationally recognised profile for use of GIS software, which has been built up over the last five years. Our work has been showcased by Ordnance Survey and we have received recognition from central government for our mapping achievements.
We also offer a number of staff benefits, including:
• Flexible working arrangements (including flexi time and the option to work from home)
• Discounted leisure centre membership
• Cycle to work scheme
• Leave Plus (enabling you to buy extra annual leave)
• Annual rail tickets scheme
As a large employer, we are also able to offer a wide range of non-employment related benefits. We have negotiated discounts with local businesses and trades persons from local flower shops, nail and beauty salons and garages to plumbers, electricians, builders and landscape gardeners (to name just a few!).
What are we looking for?
The skills and knowledge required for this post will include:
• Assisting with implementation of technology projects
• Translating requirements into workable solutions
• Testing solutions to required levels of quality and performance
• Knowledge of HTML, JavaScript and CSS
• Knowledge of GIS and/or web mapping
• Understanding standards around usability and accessibility
• Communication skills to develop ongoing effective relationships
