Libraries Development Officer – SME Champion, Build-a-Business 
Grade: 6, £13,521 - £14,789
Working Hours: 18 hours per week
Contract Type: Fixed-term contract to 31 July 2023

Build-A-Business in Greater Manchester (GM) Libraries is a programme led by the Business & IP (BIPC) Centre, Manchester, to support start-up businesses and new entrepreneurs in developing the insight, skills and confidence they need to start and grow successful businesses. This two-year project will include tailored workshops, networking events and access to the BIPC Manchester and online business resources. It will be delivered by the BIPC Manchester and a network of 8 Greater Manchester library services in partnership. This is a European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) project, with match funding contributions from other organisations.

An SME Champion is being appointed for each of the 8 GM authorities. This postholder will plan and organise all the project activities in Salford, mainly at Eccles Library. These will include marketing and SME outreach, monthly workshops, record-keeping, administration and quarterly reports in line with ERDF monitoring systems. Some delivery of events will also be involved. The role will require the gaining of practical knowledge of the library service’s resources for businesses, COBRA (the Complete Online Business Reference Advisor) in particular:

You will need enthusiasm, energy and resilience, in addition to excellent people and communication skills and experience of working successfully with partners. You must have very good administrative skills and be able to manage projects and programmes of activities. You should be able to deliver workshops and activities and to quickly acquire and use the knowledge appropriate for the project, the ability to demonstrate and explain business information to the city's small business sector. You should have excellent IT skills, including in Excel and using specialist database systems, and the ability to organise and work to deadlines and schedules.

An understanding of businesses and the resources available to support them would be an advantage.

You should also be committed to demonstrating the Salford Community Leisure behaviours.

Hours will be flexible according to the demands of the project and will include evenings and weekends.
